Project added: Ramallah Moments

I’ve added an old project to the Projects section: Ramallah Moments.

This is an account of a two-day trip I took in 2008 to Ramallah, a city in the West Bank, and the neighbouring refugee camp of Ammari.

I was 25 then, trying to break into photojournalism, and when the opportunity for this trip came along, I took it without hesitation. I was accompanying an American journalist, and I spent my time in Ramallah and Ammari observing, listening, and photographing.

The trip made such an impression on me that, when I returned home, I wrote this account, which was probably my first ever piece of self-initiated serious writing. I tried to pitch it to various publications at the time, without success.

I came across this text and these photos when cleaning an old hard drive a while ago, and I was unsure whether I should publish this project here.

I decided to put it up. There are parts of this text that I would write differently today, but I think, overall, that it’s an interesting account of five moments in a specific place at a specific time, as experienced by the person who I was, eighteen years ago.
